Hola! My name is Laura and I am the one that signs the post as the Spanish one because well, I am originally from Spain. I moved to Austin back in 2014 and I have always been amazed by the diversity this city offers in the food scene. Everything, in every shape and form, you can find food anywhere in town and it is served in the most unique places: food trucks, decor stores, stands, small restaurants as well as upscale ones. Austin has acquired a lot of its character thanks to the cuisine scene.

Coming from Spain food has been a very important part of my life since before I was born. My mother is an amazing cook as well as my grandmother! Although I was not allowed in the kitchen, I developed a great passion for gastronomy. So passionate that when I travel 60% of the trip revolves around food.

I believe food is the most basic expression of affection, cooking for someone else is the selfless act love, it brings people together and I love that.

Howdy Y’all! Zhipeng here. As you might have guessed from my unpronounceable name, I am the Chinese one. I moved here in the summer of 2012 and started cooking on the regular as a necessity (to save money! Poor graduate school student life...). But then cooking became a hobby and now I appreciate cooking as a form of art, and food; is always on my mind!

With so many great food establishments in Austin, it is always interesting to try different food and chat with the people who prepare the food. Knowing a little bit more about them helps me better understand what I am tasting and adds another layer of flavor to the deliciousness. A good meal feeds the body; a good meal with a beautiful story can nurture the mind. And for that, I am very excited to work on the Kitchen Pass!

Behind the camera! Thomas first picked up a camera in New York City in the mid 90s and has been shooting ever since. Since that time, he has worked in video production as a Director, Cinematographer, and Editor — often all at once.

Thomas brings years of video experience to every production and is an expert at finding and preserving special moments on film. His camera skills have been utilized by production companies in New York City, Austin, and across the country, where he brings the same drive and love of film to every project he undertakes.

Thomas and Laura met while working at a Spanish Tapas Bar in Austin. In 2018 after a couple of years they reconnected and decided to start The Kitchen Pass as a way to show the world the real stories behind the kitchen line, beyond the food and the ambiance of a restaurant.
